Property Description
Starting out as a rural community at a crossroads, Waldorf was settled just before the turn of the 20th century. The town sprung up around the train station and was named Beantown after one of the local families. It changed to Waldorf in 1880, a name chosen from William Waldorf Astor. For several decades, Waldorf was best known as a tobacco market. This changed in 1949 with the legalization of slot machines in Charles County. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Waldorf was a prime destination for gambling, but all this ended in 1968 when gambling was outlawed. The town went through a subsequent transition in 1970, when it received a loan package from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This allowed for the construction of a planned community and the town became a residential center. A characteristic of Waldorf is its green spaces. A favorite is Pinefield Community Park, which has soccer fields and a playground and ideal for picnics. Another is Accokeek East Community Park, which is great for families and dog walking. Another favorite is the Indian Head Rail Trail. This was once a railroad track which was paved over and turned into a 13-mile bike/jogging trail. This is an amazing home in an amazing 55+ community. This elegant home offers 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a garage, and 2400 square feet of living space. The owner suite resides on the main level with it’s own private bathroom. The first floor living and dining areas offer magnificent views whether you are on the main level or gazing down from the second level loft area. Sunlight fills the entire open space for the main and top levels unless you opt to close the power remote operated dormer shades. The top level consists of 2 bedrooms and a full bath. The rear patio offers peace and quiet when you just want to sit outside and gaze into the open space. An irrigation system has been installed by the owner. The furnace was replaced in March of 2025. Swim to your heart content year-round, in either the club house indoors or outdoor swimming pools. The clubhouse consists of a sports lounge, game room, a full kitchen, an aerobic studio, and a gym. You may see deer from time to time walking through the neighborhood, even in your backyard. The clubhouse overlooks the community pond where Canadian geese gather. You’re just minutes away from shopping, dining, entertainment, and major commuter routes to Washington, DC, Andrews AFB, and National Harbor. DON’T MISS THIS ONE!
